What if AI wasn’t neutral?
What if it had a moral compass? And where did that compass come from?
This project investigates how three ethical frameworks, Utilitarianism, Kantian Ethics, and Nihilism, might influence the design of something as classic as a car.
By prompting AI (chat GPT) to think like each philosophy and describe its ideal vehicle, then visualizing those ideas with image generation, the result is a series of car dashboards with radically different priorities and aesthetics. Each one reveals the hidden values behind design decisions we often take for granted.
From the stripped-down efficiency of a utilitarian design to the ironic chaos of a nihilist cockpit, this project turns morality into a design system and asks:
Who is really designing your tools, and how might their values affect the ones you use?
In the end, the experiment shows two things: how vulnerable we are to the perspectives we give machines, and how much power we have to shape them.
Maybe the real question isn’t just what we ask AI, but how we guide it to answer.
